The Divine Mercy Academy Minna was founded in
2000 by Most Rev. Dr. Martin Igwe Uzoukwu, Catholic

to the need to answer the call to begin a new
era of evangelization of the Holy Father, Pope
John Paul II, during his visits to Nigeria in
1982 and 1998.
The
Divine Mercy Academy is the institution that aims
at the training and formation of Lay Church Leaders

on to the Church by Jesus Christ the Divine Mercy

the Encyclical of Pope John Paul II, Dives in
Misericordiae (1982) and Ecclesia in Africa (1994).
It
also focuses on the family with the aim of’
bringing the family back to God’ through
the formation of members of the Family Apostles
of Divine Mercy (FADM), with emphasis on daily
family prayers, Catholic instructions and catechesis
in the home, Deepening of the Faith for families
in the Church and the Deeds of Mercy.

MISSIONARIES
OF DIVINE MERCY
A background information about the Divine Mercy
Congregation: There was an urgent need to train
Chaplains, Spiritual Guides, Pro-Lifers and Group
Leaders for the Divine Mercy Devotion. In response
to the need mentioned above, we began the Divine
Mercy Academy in 1998 immediately after the Second
Pastoral Visit to Nigeria of the Holy Father,
Pope John Paul II. As at date, we have been able
to train over Two hundred leaders among them are:
Priests, Religious & Laity, for the promotion
of the Divine Mercy Devotion and Message in and
outside Nigeria. Our training programme spreads
to other countries within and outside Africa.
The Divine Mercy Out-reach activities include:
Weekly Study Groups, Diocesan/Provincial and National
Conferences.
In
response to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit
and after due consultations with the Papal Nuncio
in Nigeria, we started a Religious Congregation
[for Priests] known as Missionaries of Divine
Mercy in the year 2002. The nature is: Clerical
Institute of Consecrated Life in accordance with
the Code of Canon Law. Presently it is of Diocesan
Right, Catholic Diocese of Minna, NIGERIA.
The progress made so far: We began the Pre-Novitiate/Novitiate
Programme on September 1st 2002 with a small number
of nine [9]. Today we have thirty members [30]
and fifteen [15] are in different Seminaries across
the country.
